I illustrated a pair of illustrations, first depicting a healthy cat with wide opened eyes and the second showing that same cat with an injured eye.
Cat eye injuries can range from minor scratches to severe trauma, often resulting from accidental scratches during play or encounters with foreign objects. Immediate treatment of these injuries is essential to prevent complications and ensure a faster recovery. Some common signs of cat eye injuries include redness, excessive tearing, and squinting. Regular eye examinations and preventive measures can help reduce the risk of such injuries, making it crucial to be proactive in safeguarding your feline friend’s eye health.
Illustrating an injury, a wound or any other case of gruesome or disturbing visual concept is always a challenge. It requires a thorough research of a great number of visual references or even seeing the injury in vivo. As an illustrator I am gradually getting used to such images, just like medical and veterinary professionals have to during their studies. My task is to translate them to a little more “tolerable” level, where I minimise the discomfort, but emphasise the important focal points for understanding the visualised concept.
